With the appearance of life in plants and animals in the month of April, the Oliver Art Gallery is featuring wildlife as its theme this month.
There will be paintings showing animals that live in the wild on the front walls. As an added feature the wildlife art of local artist Cameron Ogilvie will be shown in abundance as an added feature.
Wildlife has been the theme many artists use as their dominant subject, as wildlife has been painted and enjoyed since ancient times. As animals have always been admired it is very pleasant to have a painting displayed in a living room or den of a wild animal. Artists like Robert Bateman and Carl Benders have made an excellent living selling prints of their art portraying wildlife.
Early portrait paintings of kings, queens and aristocrats were often accompanied by animals like hunting dogs, horses and game from a hunt like foxes, pheasants, grouse and deer.
Cameron Ogilvie is an Oliver resident and has been painting for most of his life. His paintings have been hanging in people’s homes for years and are recognized as top quality art throughout BC and Canada.
Oliver should be very proud that one of its artists of wildlife is on par with the greats of our generation. Cameron does not believe in selling copies of his art as prints and only sells his originals.
The gallery is proud to feature this month’s show and encourages everyone to drop by and support our artists. The hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. We are at 6046 Main Street and there is always one of our 22 artists there to host you and answer any questions.
Next month we will be showcasing a western theme. Horses, saddles, cowboys and paintings that portray anything perceived to be called western. Also, the art of our one horse logger artist Rod Gould who resides in Greenwood will be featured.
See you at the gallery.
