Dear Editor:

This is an open letter to Town of Osoyoos Mayor Sue McKortoff and the other members of town council relating to the special open budget/capital planning meeting held at town h all on Monday, Jan. 6.

I’m asking, respectfully, as a council watchdog, that Osoyoos council show fiscal responsibility, openness and accountability with taxpayer money over the next two years.

If town council wants to save taxpayer money, I urge them to stop paying exorbitant engineering and consulting fees and hire full-time civil engineers who have planning experience.

The Town of Osoyoos has three full-time planners on its payroll. Please do something about it.

We can’t afford this because it’s too costly for local taxpayers.

Further, as has been reported in the Osoyoos Times, it has been stated, “we’ll take (ideas) back as we continue our budget meetings to decide what we can afford and what’s the highest priority.”

Thank you for your consideration on this matter.

Sy Murseli
