Late Monday night, Erin Lemiski and her kids fell asleep in their living room in Osoyoos watching The Lorax when they were jolted awake when a chunk of concrete came crashing through the window.
“I just got woken up by a huge crash, a rock hitting my leg and glass coming down everywhere all over me because I was on the couch that was right up against the window. So it all just kind of came crashing down on me,” explained Lemiski, adding that she was lucky she didn’t get more injured.
Lemiski, who now has two deep six-inch cuts on her leg, said she didn’t see anyone outside after the incident which happened after 1 a.m. Monday night. She called the RCMP, who arrived at the scene shortly after but were not able to find anyone in the area, according to Lemiski.
“They came in and cleaned up all the glass and they just had no idea even what to go on because there was nothing. Just a big chunk of concrete,” she said, describing the football-sized object that crashed through her window. “It looks like when the sidewalk sort of starts to erode, like the curb had broken off.”
Lemiski said her kids have been terrified after the incident. “They’re just completely freaked out. They keep asking ‘is this going to happen again?’”
Baffled by the unusual, yet violent event, Lemiski is looking to find out what happened.
“I’m right across the street from the elementary school, and I know that there’s security cameras, so I’m hoping maybe we can figure something out,” said Lemiski.
