Update – 3:50 p.m.: 

Firefighters from the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department worked quickly to contain the fire near Ravenhill Road and are now mopping up — and the Osoyoos Times has captured images of what appears to be a burn pit at the epicentre of the blaze.

The embers of a burn pile were still smouldering with nearby broken furniture and wood piled a few meters away as firefighters moved quickly to surround the fire just West of Ravenhill Road Monday afternoon.

Anarchist Mountain Fire Chief Urs Grob was coordinating the firefighting efforts on the scene and could not immediately comment on what sparked the fire.


Update – 3:30 p.m.:

Firefighters have contained a wildfire on Anarchist Mountain and are mopping up the blaze.

The fire broke out before 2 p.m. near Ravenhill Road, north of Highway 3.

Firefighters are currently batting a wildfire on Anarchist Mountain.

Over 10 firefighters from the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department responded to the blaze off of Ravenhill Road north of Highway 3 just before 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon.

One water truck and two engines are on scene.

The fire was initially 100 square metres in size, but grew slowly. Firefighters are working to contain the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and more details will be published as they are made available.
