Artist Gwen Prince from Oliver first discovered gourds last year and fell in love with their uniqueness.

Each one is a work of art just after being picked, but then they turn ugly and look awful. That is when they need a little tender loving care.

Prince believes everything should be painted at some point, so she turns each gourd into a show piece, whether it be bowls or bird  houses.

She operates Out’a My Gourd Studio and is one of several vendors at the Oliver Farmers’ Market in Lions Park every Thursday. This market is different than the artisan craft market in Oliver Community Park.
