A week after they once again took part in the fundraising event to raise money for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Osoyoos Golf and Country Club general manager Lee Sapach and head professional Drew Bolokoski are probably still sore.
The dynamic duo once again volunteered to be part of the Professional Golfers’ Association of B.C. (PGABC) Golf-A-Thon for ALS and ended up completing an amazing 288 holes of golf last Tuesday.
For their hard work and endurance, Sapach and Bolokoski managed to raise almost $8,000 for a wonderful cause.
Dozens of members from the PGABC have participated in this event over the past several years, helping raise several hundred thousand dollars in the process.
Last year’s event helped raise $100,000 across the province and organizers were confident that figure would be surpassed this year.
“It was good, but it was obviously very tiring,” said Boloksoski.
No kidding.
Some golfers don’t play 288 holes of golf in an entire month and others don’t play that much in an entire season.
While most of the kudos have to go to Sapach and Bolokoski for putting in such a tremendous effort, everyone from the Osoyoos Golf and Country Club who pledged money and every local business owner who also supported the cause also deserves a loud round of applause.
Special kudos are also in order for Jolly Gill, Sapach’s wife, and Alana Egli, who works at the golf course, and approached numerous businesses in an effort to raise as much funds as humanly possible for the 2012 event.
ALS is one of the most cruel diseases known to mankind as there is no known cause or cure and it’s fatal.
Events like this are needed to raise money so much-needed research can continue to try and find a cure.
Thankfully people like Sapach and Bolokoski, who are both very busy men, keep finding the time to help the cause.
The people and business owners in this community never fail to deliver when it comes to supporting a good cause and it’s wonderful to see a unique event like this continue to be successful.
