The town’s boat trailer parking lot on Spartan Drive will soon have the option for recreational vehicle (RV) parking in five to six stalls.

Town council voted unanimously at the regular meeting on June 3 to amend the 2010 off-street parking bylaw to allow for RVs and utility trailers to be parked in the town’s lot.

Over the past few years there have been requests to town staff to have RVs parked in the boat trailer parking lot, according to a report to council.

The previous bylaw did not allow anything other than boat trailers to be parked in the lot.

One section of the lot will feature additional signage for RV parking, which would need a permit issued through the town. The maximum permit would allow for seven days of parking.

Coun. Rhodes raised concerns of RVs parking in the lot.

“If you have a 40 or 44-foot motor home in there, how do they get in and out of there? That concerns me,” Rhodes said, noting during peak times in the summer the lot is usually full with trailers.

About five or six stalls will be used for RVs and utility trailers according to the amended bylaw.

Permit requirements would also include no overnight camping restrictions.
