On Monday the Town of Oliver will hear a business proposal on access to medical marijuana.
Grant Bruce is slated to speak to council at 7 p.m. after two other delegations, including RCMP Sgt. Blaine Gervais and employment advisor Kendi Clearwater from WorkBC.
Bruce will talk about issues pertaining to the medical cannabis dispensary industry in Canada.
The City of Penticton has suspended the business licences of at least two dispensaries, and the Town of Osoyoos is looking at a bylaw to curb pot shops until federal regulations are clarified.
Bruce says medical dispensaries should be licenced as essential service providers, adding that municipalities should prepare reports on the zoning of such facilities.
Diane Vaykovich, the corporate officer for the Town of Oliver, said no applications have been received for a medical marijuana dispensary in town. But she noted that some interest has been shown from two or three individuals in the past 10 months.
