The Town of Oliver is considering to approve a contract to assess the condition of its irrigation canal for future rehabilitation.

The Town of Oliver is considering a $105,000 contract to assess the condition of its irrigation canal for future rehabilitation work.

The Town of Oliver is looking to hire a consultant for $105,000 to assess the condition and make recommendations for the rehabilitation of its irrigation canal.

Today, council members will consider approving a contract with Allnorth Consultants.

“This project is necessary for reliable, long-term operation of the rural irrigation water supply system,” said interim Chief Administrative Officer Tom Szalay.

A total of $100,000 was previously included in the 2016 water budget for this project. Approximately $800 was has been spent to date.

Once completed, the assessment will identify repair and maintenance funding needs for the canal in upcoming years, Szalay said.

A total of five contract bids were received. Bids ranged from $89,980 to $191,000. The winning contract is based on price, quality, experience and work plan.

The Town’s consulting firm said the Allnorth proposal is the best value for the Town.
