Town council will host a couple of public hearings tonight on rezoning/bylaw amendment applications.
The former community services building on Kootenay Street and Fairview Road is the subject of a rezoning application, which will be the subject of a public hearing at tonight’s regular Town council meeting at 7 p.m.
The purpose of the zoning amendment is to facilitate the development of two dwelling units in the form of a duplex.
It is proposed that the zoning be amended from Town Centre to residential low density.
The applicant states there is an overabundance of commercially zoned land in Oliver with many vacancies, and there is more demand for residential accommodation on Kootenay Street.
Town planner Chris Garrish said the applicant has tried to find a commercial tenant without much luck.
The building was previously used by the Oliver Amateur Radio Club.
In addition to this public hearing, there will be another hearing tonight on a renovations plan for Kiwanis Manor, also on Kootenay Street.
