A request that Town council will be looking at during budget deliberations is donating a vehicle to Oliver Crime Watch.

Recently council discussed the group’s previous request regarding a dedicated vehicle to enhance their service in town.

Corporate Officer Diane Vaykovich reminded council that Crime Watch asked for a vehicle for members to use on patrol.

It was requested the vehicle be equipped with a dash camera and hand-held radios to improve communication with the Oliver RCMP.

Vaykovich said Public Works is considering retiring one of its trucks in 2018, so this truck could be used as the dedicated vehicle.

The truck is older, but mechanically sound, she pointed out.

She broke down the costs as follows: dash camera – $250; branding wrap – $1,500; and digital radios – $400. The total would be $2,150. The vehicle would also include insurance and licencing.

Vaykovich said funding support could be sought through the regional district (Area C). The request has been forwarded to 2018 budget discussions.
