Oliver Ready-Mix is increasing its security after thieves made off with thousands of dollars worth of tools Wednesday night.
Police report that someone entered the property on Vineyard Road at approximately 10 p.m. via the hike and bike path along Okanagan River. The thief or thieves gained access to a hut containing tools, machinery and equipment. Between $10,000 and $20,000 worth of equipment was stolen, according to police.
A white, older model 1980s Ford flat deck pickup truck with roof lights and side boards was captured on video surveillance. Sergeant Blaine Gervais from the Oliver RCMP said no suspects have been identified at this time.
“They really made a haul,” said Oliver Ready-Mix manager John Gibbs, who noted this is the second break-in and theft this year.
Gibbs said the thieves made off with welders, torches, impact tools and grease guns. “Expensive stuff. It seems like they were going shopping.”
The manager he is working on improving security on the premises.
