The local Sikh community is celebrating its annual Vaisakhi event on Saturday with prayers, a parade, food and events at the Oliver Community Park with the whole community welcome to join the festivities.
Local riding candidate Linda Sankey was in Oliver today for the Punjabi community’s Vaisakhi festival, but without party leader Jagmeet Singh who cancelled his visit as he felt it was inappropriate given the 11 deaths at the hands of a 30-year old man who rammed his car into a crowd of visitors at a Filipino community event on Friday evening.

Concluding a weekend of celebrations including prayers and festive food for Vaisakhi, a major Sikh festival which marks the Solar New Year, many members of the local community enjoyed a parade and special procession through the streets of Oliver on Sunday April 17.
