Sunnybank Auxiliary held their annual St. Patrick’s Tea on Wednesday, March 18 at the Elks Hall.

There were 75 people in attendance at the colourfully decorated hall for the afternoon event which is a fundraiser for the auxiliary.  The tables were decorated with brightly coloured primulas and set with china tea cups on white tableclothes and green napkins.

President Joy Vangen opened the tea with a welcome to all gathered, including 15 residents from Sunnybank Centre who came by van with their recreation therapy workers.

Linda Larson is our tea convenor, and Mary Unger, is our kitchen cordinator with many auxiliary ladies taking part in setups, making sandwiches, assembling tea plates and serving. Long-time members are treasurer Diane Lindsay at the door and Bonnie Dunn in charge of the bake table with a number of helpers selling raffle and 50/50 tickets. Also for sale were colourful cotton dishclothes made by the knitting group of Sunnybank residents.  There were three raffle prizes: handmade green afghan, pot of gold and a spring floral arrangement, along with the many appreciated door prizes.

The money raised at this popular event and the Christmas Tea which is held on the first Wednesday of December is used to provide plants for the newly renovated rose horseshoe garden and the activities for the residents. The auxiliary funds the bingos, manicures and knitting programs. There are two events held at the centre for residents – a Thanksgiving tea and a spring tea in April.

The auxiliary also buys Christmas gifts for each of the 50 residents.

It’s been our pleasure to provide comfort and care for the residents over the past 30 years as the auxiliary.

This year we want to thank the generous community of Oliver for helping us raise approximately $1,000.

We welcome new members to this rewarding organization. Our last regular meeting before the summer recess is April 1 at 1 p.m. at the centre’s activity room on Park Drive.
