The Southern Okanagan Secondary School Hornets have moved another step closer to their goal of making the provincials
The Hornets opened the 2A Valley high school basketball playoffs by defeating PVSS 73-50 Thursday.
PVSS came out strong and led 11-10 early in the first quarter. However, that would be the last time they had the lead.
The Hornets went on a three-point binge, hitting 13 of 29 in the first half, and taking a 43-23 lead into the half.
SOSS was able to push the lead to 30 in the second half, allowing the bench to get some minutes at the end of the game.
The Hornets were led by Kulbir Singh Grewal with 28 followed by Blake Miller Yuckin with 18 and 10 rebounds. Austin Basso and Gurshan Dhaliwal both added 11 in the victory.
The Hornets got some solid play from Jasdeep Sandhu, Brett Harrington, Anmol Malhi and Manveer Brar.
SOSS now prepares to face Fulton tonight at 7 in the semifinal.
The teams have met twice this year, splitting the games. Fulton won by four and SOSS by two, so this should be a battle,
A win would almost guarantees a berth to the provincials for the Hornets, who are after their seventh-straight appearance in the Valley championship game.
