The Osoyoos Soroptimists have been busy preparing gift baskets for their “Winter Fantasy” breakfast and fashion show to be held on Saturday, Nov. 8.
The event is being held at Watermark Beach Resort. Doors open at 8 a.m. so that guests have an hour to browse the silent auction items before a buffet-style breakfast is served at 9 a.m., said Doreen Janko, a spokesperson for the Soroptimists.
“We have an absolutely incredible silent auction,” said Janko. “We’re well known for our silent auctions, but this one hits a new high.”
Items donated by businesses are being arranged in gift baskets that guests can bid on, Janko said.
A fashion show runs throughout the breakfast and features fall and winter fashions from several Osoyoos fashion shops, including Boutique de Sonia, Strike the Pose, Valanné Style, Shoe Biz and Wander Café.
“They’ll be seasonal fashions,” said Janko. “Fall and winter styles and perhaps a little glitter for the holidays.”
The Soroptimists hold a spring fashion show around the end of April and beginning of May, she said, but this is the first time a fall show has been held with a breakfast.
“We kind of like that because it gives you the rest of the day to do what you have to do,” she said.
The fashions will be aimed at women of all ages, although there is not normally much shown in children’s fashion, she added.
There are also door prizes.
The Soroptimists are using the event as a fundraiser to support their community work, which is often directed at women and education.
The women’s group has a high school program that addresses such important issues as drug abuse and bullying at high schools in Osoyoos, Oliver and Keremeos.
They also provide bursaries to a young woman in each graduating class who is involved in community service while achieving good grades.
Another program assists a local single mother who is solely responsible for supporting her family.
The Osoyoos Soroptimists recently marked their 28th anniversary in the community.
Tickets for the event are $24 and are available at Boutique de Sonia and Imperial Office Pro in Osoyoos and Beyond Bliss in Oliver.
