Merle Somerville can check another item off his bucket list. The local photographer was awarded the Master of Photography degree by the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) at its annual conference, Imaging USA in Phoenix, Arizona in January.
The degree was presented to Somerville by PPA president, Ralph J. Romaguera in recognition of Somerville’s photographic competence demonstrated through success in photographic competition, advanced education and service to the profession.
For Somerville, the degree is more than a piece of paper. It is the culmination of 30 years of hard work and dedication to honing his craft. He is one of 15 photographers in Canada to receive this honour.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted,” he said.
“It’s been on my bucket list since I received my Canadian Masters Degree in 1978.”
