A group of local volunteers helped keep tabs on the different types of sheep in the Okanagan Valley with the 71st Annual Sheep Count at Vaseaux Lake Foothill ranges on Feb. 8.
A total 58 volunteers and hikers attend the 8 a.m. start at the Vaseux Lake Campground.

The day marked the 71st Annual Sheep Count at Vaseaux Lake — the longest consecutive wildlife and sheep inventory count in  Western Canada according to organizers.
The 2020 Sheep Count totals included:
97 California Big Horn Sheep
34 Rams
41 Ewes * some of the Ewe counts included young yearling sheep
25 Lambs
75 Mule Deer
And one coyote.
The South Okanagan Sporstmen’s Association thanked the following organizations and this year’s volunteers including: “The BC Trappers Association providing hot breakfast at the campground.
