The Town of Osoyoos held two Public Information Meetings earlier this week (March 11/12) regarding the ongoing Short-Term Rental (STR) Regulation Review project and is urging those who would still like to provide feedback to fill in the online survey.
The proposed amendments will impact the Town’s Official Community Plan (OCP), Zoning, and Municipal Ticket Information Bylaw.
The Town says the project seeks to:
- Establish and implement a “Short-Term Rental Accommodation Pilot Program”, which would permit STRs in the Small-Scale Multi-Unit Residential (RS1) Zone under specified parameters, if adopted as proposed;
- Introduce new business licensing requirements for STRs and bed and breakfast operations;
Introduce new fines for STR operations; and, - Evaluate STR uses within the Resort Commercial (CT4) Zone as well as “tourist accommodation” uses within strata-titled hotels, motels and resorts within other zones in the town.
Staff were on hand to answer questions residents may have regarding this project.
For more information on the Short-Term Rental Regulation Review Project, including draft bylaws, an associated administrative report, and previous and current engagement opportunities, please visit the project webpage (Planning & Development/ Strategic Land Use Projects / Short-Term Rental Regulation Review).
In addition to attending the public information meetings, the Town is encouraging residents to complete an online survey on short-term rentals, which can be accessed on the project webpage’s Online Survey. The survey will be open until March 28, 2025.
Anyone wishing to have feedback considered by Council are encouraged to submit it electronically to [email protected] by March 28, 2025. Feedback forms are also available here.
