UPDATED:

Highway 97 through Kaleden was reopened in the early morning hours of Saturday following a crash Friday night with DriveBC saying the highway was reopened at about 2 a.m.

Saturday 12 a.m.

Highway 97 at Kaleden remains closed as of the last update from DriveBC at 12 a.m.

The highway has been closed in both directions since shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday after what DriveBC describes as a “vehicle incident” between Junction Hwy 3A (Kaleden Junction) and Pineview Dr for 3.9 km (5 km north of Okanagan Falls to 4 km south of Penticton).

Social media posts have said it was a head-on collision with fatalities, but the Times Chronicle cannot verify the veracity of those comments at this time and will update once official comment is available.

DriveBC said an assessment is in progress and that an estimated time of reopening is not available.

All vehicles are currently being detoured via Eastside Rd. The next update will be issued on Sat Dec 9 at 2:00 AM PST.
