Special to the Chronicle
Okay, boys (and girls), start your engines, well, at least pretend to on April 21.
The 1st Oliver Scouts are once again gearing up for their annual junkbox derby on Skagit Avenue this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Last week a handful of kids showed up in Town council chambers to ask for support in closing Skagit Avenue for part of the day to host the event.
The kids requested the use of 10 traffic barricades and some help with traffic control.
The local club will invite other Cubs to participate in the big race, which will feature awards and a barbecue.
Scout leader Mike Field said these junkboxes can reach speeds of 26 km/h.
“Ever had a crash?” one councillor asked.
One Cub said he crashed once.
