The Royal Bank of Canada is sharing some of its profits with Oliver Elementary School.
The branch, celebrating its 75th anniversary in Oliver, has given $10,000 to the school for physical and outdoor education.
Bank representative Paul Gill attended both the elementary and secondary school in Oliver as a youth.
“Something that’s very important to me is not only giving back to the community but investing in the youth,” Gill said.
He spoke to elementary school principal Jason McAllister who was thrilled with the donation that will update equipment and educate students during field trips.
McAllister said they are looking at a few ideas where the money will be best utilized.
“Physical education, outdoor education, possibly a legacy purchase . . . something that will stick around for a while.”
The principal said this is the first time that such a large donation has been granted to the school by RBC.
“It works well for us and goes back to support kids and families.”
Gill said the Town of Oliver is also celebrating its 75th anniversary of incorporation, so this donation fits well.
