A renowned gospel singer from Western Canada is making a trip to Osoyoos as part of his current tour of British Columbia.

Steve Palmer will be appearing at the Osoyoos United Church on Sunday, March 13 to perform a mix of gospel and folk music that will include several of his own catchy original tunes, said Donna Alexander, a member of the Osoyoos United Church who helped organize the concert.

Palmer is a Prairie born musician who has been involved in music for 50 years, starting back in 1966 in Edmonton playing in bands that opened for a lot of famous groups, including Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, and The Who.

Palmer has performed as a solo musician for the past several years as he found it resulted in a much easier lifestyle than being part of a large entourage of musicians.

Palmer  has performed his way across Canada and is comfortable with larger venues as well as more intimate audiences like the one he will perform in front of in Osoyoos, said Alexander.

Palmer’s music has been heard in the United States as a regular on National Public Radio (NPR), and is currently on tour in British Columbia for the months of February and March.

Following his concerts there have been great reviews.

Stuart McLean of the Vinyl Café on CBC Radio recently gave a solid review of Palmer’s music and iconic Canadian folk singer Valdy also commented on Palmer’s outstanding guitar skills.

Everywhere Palmer plays, the audiences are well entertained with his homegrown talent and humour, said Alexander.

Palmer has produced four albums featuring his many talents in music styles from folk, bluegrass, gospel and country and gathers his inspiration from legends like The Carter Family, Johnny Cash and Gordon Lightfoot. The CDs will be available at his performance at Osoyoos United Church.

Tickets are available at Imperial Office Pro at 8510 Main Street. Tickets cost $15 each or $20 for two. Children under 12 can attend free of charge.
