The RDOS rescinded the Evacuation Alert for eight properties in Electoral Area A.
In an update on Saturday, August 21, the B.C. Wildfire Service said it had successfully undertaken further small hand ignitions in the north to assist in tying in containment to prevent the fire from entering Vaseux drainage.
Because of precipitation today on and around the fire ground, planned ignitions were put on hold with crews continuing to mop up containment lines and patrol the fire ground for hot spots, the Wildfire Service said.
Larger planned ignitions will occur in the coming days if/when the weather allows, it added.
“Crews yesterday worked on a small spot fire on the west that was visible from the town of Oliver. This is now with containment and with crews patrolling and continuing mop-up of this area.”
Structure protection equipment will remain set up in the Mt. Baldy Ski area it added, saying 96 Mexican firefighters continue to work within high priority areas of the fire on the south and east flanks.
The Wildfire Service added that it continues to re-evaluate its recommendations to The Osoyoos Indian Band, the Kootenay Boundary Regional District and the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen regarding downgrades to evacuation alert and order areas based on current fire risk and activity.
