The following are Oliver town council briefs from April 11.

Building project activity for March was valued at $1.3 million.

This included two single-family developments, one single-family improvement, one industrial building demolition, and one multi-family development.

40 calls

The Oliver Fire Department responded to 40 calls in March. 

These included 16 calls to the rural area, 17 in town and six on Osoyoos Indian Band land.

These calls included five structure fires, 17 first responder (medical) calls, four motor vehicle incidents and five burning complaints. 

Water report

Oliver had a total of 4.0 mm of recorded precipitation in February.

According to Environment Canada, the normal precipitation in Oliver is 21.4 mm for the month of February (based on 1981-2010 data).

Sewer tax given third reading

Council gave three readings to the Sewer Parcel Tax Amendment Bylaw. 

This bylaw will see an increase in sewer rates of four per cent, raising the tax rate from $116.05 to $121.85 per parcel.

Financial statements approved

Council approved the statement of financial information for 2021.

This includes council and staff remuneration. The total for seven council members amounted to $102,017.52.

The statement also discloses the remuneration of Town staff who make more than $75,000 per year. In Oliver, nine staff members are included in this category, totalling $831,339.60 in remuneration.

The total remuneration paid to employees who make less than $75,000 individually is $1.9 million.

The total goods and services payments in 2021 amounted to $16.2 million. The top payment of $6.2 million went to H&M Excavating Ltd.

Closed resolutions released

Council approved the release of six resolutions from closed meetings between Oct. 15, 2018 to April 4, 2020.

One of these resolutions includes: that council not provide a letter of support to Penticton Indian Band Development Corporation for their proposal to bring Costco to the band’s channel land.
