The Oliver RCMP is asking for the public’s help in apprehending those responsible for knocking over a TELUS cell phone tower on Fairview Mountain, west of Oliver last Thursday.

March 17 the Oliver RCMP was notified by TELUS that one of its cell towers had been damaged that afternoon, causing cellular and Internet interruptions in the Oliver area. An unknown suspect(s) had knocked the 45-metre tower over, in an apparent effort to cause willful damage.

The sole intent appears to be one of causing willful damage, as there is no evidence of theft of materials or equipment from the site. This is a very serious incident which has caused cell phone and Internet service interruptions for TELUS subscribers in the Oliver area,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. “The unnecessary outage could have negatively impacted someone’s attempts to contact emergency services.

The Oliver RCMP, assisted by the South Okanagan General Investigation Section, are currently investigating the crime and are seeking public assistance from anyone who may have information regarding this matter. Persons with information are asked to contact the Oliver RCMP.
