The RCMP have been investigating the cause of the Wilson Mountain Road fire because it is not believed that lightning was the culprit.

The Chronicle has learned that police, with search warrants, have been looking at suspects. No further details are available.

The Wilson Mountain Road fire grew to 317 hectares and resulted in the evacuation of 260 homes. One home sustained significant damage.

Residents are still on evacuation alert despite the fact the fire is 70 per cent contained.

The Testalinden Creek fire continues to flare up. A large plume of smoke can be seen in the hills (north west flank), where forestry crews are conducting controlled burns (so the fire burns back on itself).

“It’s active right now, but it’s looking good,” said fire information officer Noelle Kekula. “It’s really tricky (fighting fires) in steep terrain.”

According to the BC Wildfire Service, flare-ups are expected as the fire continues to burn combustible materials.

In fact, these flare-ups will continue for many days, said Kekula.
