A crisis negotiator had to be called in Oliver on Feb. 20 after a man barricaded himself in a residence following a domestic incident.

The RCMP responded to a call of an alleged assault at 9 p.m. at a dwelling in the 5800 block of Main Street. Although the victim was able to safely escape the residence, a 47-year-old man barricaded himself inside. Police say he had access to firearms and threatened to harm himself or anyone who came to the door.

The Southeast District RCMP Critical Incident Response Team attended the scene accompanied by a crisis negotiator. Through the utilization of distraction devices and the negotiator, the man exited the residence and was safely taken into custody.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and the man faces potential assault charges as well as firearms offence charges.
