Oliver RCMP report there is “strong evidence” leading to a main suspect in several recent break-ins.

Detachment Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth said a break-in at a Main Street business involved a lone male who smashed a window and stole cartons of cigarettes.

The commander said evidence led police to a residence on McKinney Road where a search warrant was executed and three adult males were arrested.

“A search of the residence revealed evidence linked to previous break and enters.”

However, the three males were released on scene without charges as it was determined that they were not suspects in the crime, Wrigglesworth said.

He noted that several break and enters remain under investigation with strong evidence leading to a main suspect, but police are awaiting lab results before charges can be laid.

Meanwhile, the Oliver Legion reported a recent break-in to their storage shed; the locks were cut on the door.

A portable generator, tools, and a large bag of recyclable cans were stolen.

Several hours prior to the break-in being reported, a local citizen out for a walk confronted a male on a bike; that person allegedly had the stolen items, Wrigglesworth said.

The suspect abandoned the goods when he was told that police had been called.
