A $25,000 grant will kick-start phase 2 of a water quality assessment of Vaseux Lake.
Last Thursday, the regional district board supported a grant application to the Water Conservation and Quality Improvement program.
This year, the Okanagan Basin Water Board is focusing on projects dealing with flood and/or drought preparedness, and source water protection.
Phase 2 at Vaseux Lake will determine what is influencing the water quality and siltation.
Aspects being considered are adjoining land uses, existing septic disposal systems and stormwater runoff.
Phase 1 started the initial assessment of the lake including installation of sampling and monitoring devices.
Phase 2 will include a year of gathering data and conclusions regarding pollution sources that are influencing the steady growth of algae and milfoil. Some residents believe much of the milfoil is a result of effluent from the Okanagan Falls wastewater treatment plant.
