Park Place residents anxiously await the insurance company’s report on whether their claim for damage will be supported.

Council president Stuart Syme said they are in wait mode right now to see what the engineer’s report will come up with.

Park Place filed a claim after its engineers confirmed that cracks throughout the building were caused by an earthquake in 2011. Residents were subsequently given the order to vacate the property.

Syme said if the insurance company’s report agrees that the damage was caused by seismic activity, then the company will decide on a settlement.

“If they disagree, we’ll have to get a third party umpire to listen to both findings and determine what happens next.”

Syme said everyone is out of the building and security is in place. He and his wife were the last ones out; they are currently living in a trailer.

Most if not all of the 60 residents have found alternate accommodations.
