On Saturday Oliver’s U7-10 fall soccer group enjoyed an afternoon of games with our counterparts in Penticton. Thirteen of our players came ready and raring to go, with some off at scout camp that weekend, we gave an excellent account of ourselves.

We couldn’t have asked for better weather at this time of year and soon the goals came flying in, with extra points being awarded for examples of great teamwork and fancy footwork. Everyone was extremely active and played with all their hearts – even if the score didn’t always go in their favour.

Lessons were also learned during these games, areas of technique which we will work on together over the coming sessions so we will be stronger and more confident in the majority on the next game day.

After the games were finished we invited our players to stick around and play among themselves if they wished to. Some parents asked if they could join in and soon there was a great little parents vs. kids kickabout happening – though I think if we’d been keeping score the kids would have crushed us!

What is most important at this level is that our players had fun. Looking at some of the tired, yet happy faces walking off the field Saturday afternoon – I think we succeeded.
