Students at Osoyoos Secondary School are destined to make a difference in the world, it’s just a matter of when.

That process was speeded up last week during an awards ceremony that recognized many pupils for their talents in and outside the classroom.

This year the top “Rattler Award” went to Rachel Blaine and Raj Toor. This award is an all-encompassing award that includes academics, athletics, fine arts, service, citizenship and leadership.

Jamie Foster won the Grade 12 citizenship award, along with Blaine,

Myla Sanderson and Nolan Vieira won Athlete of the Year for Grade 8.

Starla Rorison also won a citizenship award, while Kaitlyn Hillson was recognized for her inclusiveness and “just a nice person.”

Specialty awards went to Kaitlyn Rempel (senior visual arts), Abi Sabo (senior food studies), Armaan Deol, Carter Sapach and Tim Hachey (golf academy), Jesse Jones and Yadwinder Kaler (Tech-Ed).

Armaan Deol also snagged awards for Pre-Calc 12, Physics 12, Chemistry 12 and Geography 12.

Tim Hachey won awards for Science 8, Socials 8 and French 8, while Sydney Hanson won awards for Biology 12 and English 12.

Kaitlyn Rempel won awards for Law 12, Life Sciences 11 and French 11.

Paige Hanson was recognized as junior female athlete of the year, while Kulshan Aujla took the junior boy title.

Harjinder Sandhu was senior boy athlete of the year, while Rachel Blaine won senior girl athlete of the year.

Manider Gill was named most valuable player in junior boys basketball, while Jacob Nelmes was “most improved” in boys soccer.

Long-distance running enthusiast Lenny Hachey won the award for “Top Time for 2K.”
