Preparations are underway for tomorrow’s rally against school closures in Osoyoos.
Save Our Schools (SOS) is encouraging members of the Osoyoos community to come to Osoyoos Secondary School (SOS) for the rally at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 29.
Participants will form a human “chain for change” around the school, said Brenda Dorosz, SOS chair.
About 16 or so businesses are also planning to close for an hour in solidarity with the students.
SOS has also been busy preparing “tons” of posters and banners, said Dorosz.
The event has recently attracted provincial media attention with stories in such publications as the Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Province, Victoria Times Colonist and Penticton Herald.
OSS Principal Mike Safek has written to parents asking them to make efforts to avoid having children leave school. The letter erroneously suggests students will meet at town hall and then travel to Oliver.
Dorosz says by keeping the rally at OSS it will allow full participation and cause less disturbance in the downtown area.
What’s open and closed Easter Monday
