This year should be a great one for cherries. (File photo)
May 3 – Cherry lovers will be pleased to know that like last year, the cherry harvest is expected to be early this year and there will be lots to go around.
BC Tree Fruits said the first cherries will be in stores by early June, thanks to an early and warm spring.
An estimated 12 million pounds of cherries is predicted for this season, up from 10.5 million pounds in 2015.
Other fruits through the summer should see a tonnage increase of around 20 to 25 per cent.

Support the OSS girls soccer team
The Osoyoos Secondary School (OSS) senior girls soccer team will be playing their last home game tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. at the school.
Ironically it will be against Oliver, where Osoyoos students will be bused next year if School District 53 is successful in closing OSS.
Players on the girls’ team, Julianna Riznik and Natalia Ibanez, were instrumental in organizing a banner to thank the Osoyoos community for their support over the past three difficult months.
“I think it would be amazing if we could get the town out to come support the girls to help finish off the league,” Riznik said.
