Osoyoos showed a strong presence during an all-star basketball weekend in the Lower Mainland.

Two of Osoyoos Secondary School’s Rattlers headed to take on some of the top talent in the province earlier this month.

“I have been playing since I was a little kid so it’s definitely exciting to play in an event like this,” said Navraj Brar, who along with Kolby Wikene participated in the 1A vs. 2A game at Semiahmoo Secondary School in Surrey.

Brar and Wikene were selected to go to the event and Brar, shooting guard, came home with the second most points in the game dropping six three-pointers leading to 24 points total. Wikene put up four points with four assists “and contributed some excellent defence,” said coach Casey Brouwer.

“I was very proud of both our players. They played hard and did a great job representing Osoyoos,” Brouwer said.

Family support was strong with a contingent of 10 making the trip to cheer the boys on.

“The game was great, it was a great experience and playing with people I haven’t played with or against was great,” Brar said.

Brar and Wikene’s single-a team were beat by the double-a team 121-71, though it didn’t damper Brar’s spirits about the event.

“My favorite part was the whole event,” Brar said. “It was really fun.”
