The three members of the Osoyoos Royalty program for 2014-15 have been kept very busy over the past several weeks attending various events across the province. Hello, Osoyoos. My name is Amara Leeson. I’m very proud to be travelling the beautiful province of B.C., representing our community with two lovely ladies, Princess Ali Hutter and Queen Teagen Aspell.
On August 22, we went to Barriere for the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo pageant.
We started with a “meet and greet”, where we had a scavenger hunt. Then we had dinner and after that attended the coronation of three great young women.
The next day was very busy as we had to wake up extra early for breakfast and then make our way to Oliver for another pageant.
We enjoyed the wonderful dinner at Nk’Mip Canyon. Afterwards, we watched the pageant and had fun at the farewell ball.
Did you know that B.C. Premier “honest” John Oliver, who planned it as a settlement for veterans of World War I, established Oliver in 1921?
On September 12, we went to Peachland for their pageant. We had dinner and attended their talent and fashion show. In the morning, we had breakfast and a tour of the Interpretive Centre and Art Gallery at the former Primary School.
We learned facts about yuma bats and discovered there are 2,000 of these bats living in the attic at the art gallery. This is a great thing for Peachland, as these bats can eat up to three quarters of their body weight in insects (especially mosquitoes) during the night.
We then took part in a picture scavenger hunt around Peachland. This was a great experience, as we got to see the town in a fun way.
Next, we went to Parrot Island, where we learned about and got to see many parrots.
Did you know that parrots will only ever love one person or parrot?
Next was the Mardi Gras Feast, where we enjoyed entertainment and wore masks. This was a retirement pageant only, as unfortunately, there were no new candidates at this time.
We had a fun farewell dance and a delicious breakfast in the morning, before heading home.
We have also been busy helping out locally.
On August 21, Queen Teagen, Princess Ali and former B.C. Ambassador Lauren Sherwood helped at the celebration of the Osoyoos Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.
On September 14 Queen Teagen was on hand to help at the Osoyoos Sailing club’s annual regatta.

Soon we will be holding our Fall Fair and Tea, on October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Osoyoos branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
