RCMP in Osoyoos are warning the public of a local telemarketing scam targeting local residents.
School District 53 notified police when they heard an individual was making phone calls to local residents requesting donations for the Osoyoos High School Healthy Kids Program, Cst. James Grandy said in a media release.
“School administrators confirmed they are not actively seeking donations for this program, and that is was a scam,” Grandy said.

An investigation revealed the same phone number making these calls is associated to several other different scams, Grandy said.
In June, the Osoyoos Fire Department reported that an individual was posing as a firefighter and collecting donations for the fire department by phone.
RCMP are advising that the public be careful when considering providing payment for anyone calling to ask for donations.
