The Town of Osoyoos is welcoming a new Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention on Monday, meaning there will be an on-duty chief 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in Osoyoos.

Tyler Hilland is joining the leadership team at Osoyoos Fire Rescue on July 6.

Hilland comes to Osoyoos from Peachland where he has served that community for the past 18 years as a member of the Peachland Fire Department, currently their Assistant Fire Chief.

Tyler brings an extensive background in firefighting as the BC Training Officers Association Zone 3 representative, Peachland training officer, Justice Institute sessional trainer and a Structure Protection Specialist for BC Wildfire Service.

The new Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention position builds off the town’s 2019 fire master plan and under the direction of the Fire Chief Dave McMahon will see the Osoyoos Fire Department (OFD) taking over fire inspections in the town and rural fire protection areas, develop pre-plans and implement public education programs — including partnering with the school district and their safety educational programs, fire investigations, records management and data tracking.

The Deputy Chief of Fire prevention forms part of the “on-duty chief” model, meaning the Town of Osoyoos has an “on-duty chief” 365 days of the year, 24 hours a day, serving and available to our community, supporting the paid, on-call members at OFD.
