A 64-year-old Osoyoos man died following a motorcycle accident in Oliver on Tuesday.

Police attended the single vehicle collision in the 7600 block of Highway 97 (near Ridgeview Road) at approximately 3 p.m.

Corporal Shana McLeod from South Okanagan Traffic Services said a lone witness advised police that the motorcyclist tried to avoid a deer, and in doing so, went off the road and struck a utility pole.

The man was conscious at the scene and was treated by BC Ambulance. He was transported to South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver for further examination. Later in the evening the male succumbed to his injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not factors in this collision, McLeod stated.

The BC Coroner Service and South Okanagan Traffic Services are investigating the incident. The name of the deceased was not released.
