The ongoing Oncology Campaign to raise $10 million to help expand and modernize the oncology facility at the Penticton Regional Hospital was given a boost following a $100,000 donation by Osoyoos’ Herb and Pat Wycherley.
This is the couple’s second gift to the South Okanagan-Similkameen (SOS) Medical Foundation since
their donation to towards refurbishing the trauma room at South Okanagan General Hospital (SOGH) in 2023. Prior to that they had donated $100,000 in 2019 to the foundation to help purchase medical equipment for SOGH.
Their most recent philanthropic gesture is particularly poignant for them, having recently experienced the
loss of a close friend to cancer.
It is estimated that over the next 20 years, cancer rates will increase by 30 per cent due to the aging demographic profile of the South Okanagan.
“These staggering figures underscore the urgent need for enhanced cancer care facilities in our community,” the SOS Medical Foundation said, adding it is grateful for the Wycherley’s gift which will make a difference in the lives of the patients and families in the South Okanagan Similkameen.
“The need for enhanced oncology services hits close to home for us, and we are honoured to support the
Oncology Campaign and contribute towards bringing cancer care closer to our community,” the Wycherley’s said of their donation. “We encourage fellow community members to join us in supporting this cause,” they added.
