An 11 year old boy who died after being mauled in a dog attack in Edmonton this week was a Grade 5 student at Osoyoos Elementary School.
According to an Edmonton Police Service statement officers responded to the report of a dog attack at a residence in the area of 82 Street and 11 Avenue SW in the city at just before 8 p.m. on Monday, April 1.
Upon arrival, officers located a severely injured 11-year-old boy who had been attacked by two “very large” dogs.
According to the statement police attempted lifesaving measures until EMS attended the scene very shortly after and ultimately declared the child deceased.
The two dogs were seized by Animal Control Peace Officers and reportedly belong to a person who lives at the residence where the child was visiting.
Marcus Toneatto, School District 53 superintendent said the school district’s critical incident team was immediately assembled, briefed and put together a response plan to support the staff and students.
The Edmonton Journal reported that neighbours had been complaining about continuously barking dogs for some time with animal control having been called to the house over two previous dog attacks just this year.
