Birgit Arnstein, past president of the Osoyoos Lake Water Quality Society, organized a team of volunteers to put decals promoting the lake on trash cans along the lake’s walkways on Saturday. She demonstrated the technique to volunteers, who then branched out to cover different parks and walkways. Arnstein said the OLWQS wants people to be mindful generally about what goes into the lake — whether it’s boats leaking oil, pesticides from farms, or invasive species like zebra and quagga mussels. The group also has pole banners promoting the lake throughout town and an overhead banner on Main Street that will be used when other events such as Market on Main and the festivals aren’t being promoted.
