The Sagebrushers will take part in a gala weekend starting with serving and welcoming the participants of the Half Corked Marathon on Saturday, May 24.

A reception for feature artist Leza Macdonald will begin at 2 pm in the Quail’s Roost Gallery on the mezzanine floor of Rustico Farm and Cellars winery. Everyone is welcome to come and visit the gallery and meet Macdonald  and other artists.

On Sunday, May 25 the Sagebrushers will host the Rustico rodeo pancake breakfast, a fundraiser for “Any Child Can Join (Spirit of the Game).”

This event welcomes the Half Corked Marathon participants, their friends, families and local folks of Oliver, Osoyoos and nearby communities.

Breakfast is served from 8:30 am to 2 pm and is sponsored by Rustico Farm and Cellars, Spirit Ridge Resort & Spa, and Oliver Sagebrushers’ Quail’s Roost Art Gallery

The weekend events feature live musical entertainment.

Don’t miss “George Jones” and “Nooner,” two new additions to the Rustico team. They are actually miniature Sicililan donkeys . . . heavens, what will Bruce Fuller think of next?

The Oliver Sagebrushers and Rustico Farm and Cellars host a couple of great events this weekend. The art of Leza Macdonald will also be featured.

These donkeys represent Rustico’s mining and ranching history in the South Okanagan. At one time miniature donkeys (among other critters) were used to pull the ore carts along tracks deep underground.

The donkeys arrived a few days ago and Bruce built a special mini corral for them next to the winery.

“We thought this would be wonderful for the many Half-Corked Marathoners running up the driveway next Saturday . . . plus an interesting attraction at our fundraising pancake breakfast on Sunday,” he said.

The gallery will be open all weekend with many treasures to delight the eye. It is with great pleasure that the gallery shows the creative talents enjoyed by this versatile group of painters.

The gallery encourages every age to develop their creativity. The Sagebrushers also provide art lessons for children at Quail’s Nest Arts Centre on Saturday mornings. Children are encouraged to paint, draw or do other arts and crafts. Being creative helps them develop out-of-the-box thinking, intuition, imagination and other skills that later help them to come up with ideas to solve problems.

The Oliver Sagebrushers are a very dedicated group that enjoys bringing art, culture and beauty to the community.

New members are welcome, whether they are beginners or advanced artists. The group meets every Tuesday morning at Quail’s Nest Arts Centre on Airport Road.
