The Oliver Fire Department is organizing a special fundraiser to help their “brothers from different mothers” in Rock Creek.

The squad is selling T-shirts to raise money for a Munckhof “first out” fire suppression unit for the community of Rock Creek that suffered a devastating wildfire this summer.

Rob Graham from the Oliver Fire Department said Oliver has two of these units that have proven “invaluable.”

“They (Rock Creek) are our ‘brothers from different mothers’ and we felt that this was a good cause for fundraising.”

The fire suppression units work like a charm because they are equipped with a hose reel that can easily be used to extinguish a small blaze. For example, it was utilized to extinguish a flare-up that occurred during the Wilson Mountain Road fire recently.

Graham said the Town of Oliver was very fortunate this year with little or no damage from the two wildfires.

“Our crews worked tirelessly, gave up time at work, gave up time with family and asked nothing in return.”

But Graham said Oliver area residents deserve credit too because they responded heroically with “massive” amounts of support.

The $20 T-shirts will be available for pick-up at Buy-Low Foods on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Oliver firefighters will host a barbecue for the same charity starting at 11 a.m. in the Buy-Low parking lot. Look for the fire truck.

People who can’t make it that day can buy a T-shirt at Dubh Glas Distillery north of Oliver after the October 3-4 weekend. While you are there, check out Grant Stevely’s award-winning gin.

If you are planning to attend Festival of the Grape on October 3-4, you’ll find the T-shirts there as well.
