Oliver town council is seeking government funding for a community pavilion on Station Street.
Director of Development Services Randy Houle said a timber-framed pavilion would be utilized as a farmer’s market, as well as a secondary tasting space where wineries could rotate in and out. He noted the building could replicate the structure (downtown barn) that was recently built in Pemberton.
Houle said the cost estimate is $1 million, which is what the town is asking for in the grant. He noted a specific design and location will be determined if and when the grant application is successful. He did say the pavilion would run parallel to Station Street.
Councillor Dave Mattes said he is not against the concept but is concerned that council is “slowly eating away at Station Street.”
