The Town of Oliver is taking action to address a number of risks identified in a recent consultant’s report on the municipal airport.
On Sept. 26 council received the Oliver Airport Risk Assessment final report and directed staff to control several highlighted risks.
The following hazards and topics were identified for assessment:
• North end of strip exceeds permissible grade slope
• Tree conflict with obstacle limitation surfaces
• Obstructions not marked or lit
• Repainting of all airport markings
• Airport security and use of gates
• East snow fence and posts
• Airport foreign object damage accumulation
• Fortis white markers represent obstruction within runway strip
Multiple option risk assessments include management and control of vehicles outside of maneuvering areas, and fixed wing prop wash and helicopter rotor wash (hazard of exposure to persons, property and aircraft).
• Model aircraft club activities
Other meeting topics include jet fuel services and distribution, fire department training area, and BC Wildfire Service use of airport.
