Regional directors for Oliver and Osoyoos aren’t worried too much about this year’s flood risk.
Rural Osoyoos director Mark Pendergraft said the snowpack is slightly higher than normal and there is a potential to have some flooding in Area A this spring.
“But as usual flooding is very dependent on how fast the snow melt happens and also if there is much rain.”
Pendergraft said it is always a good plan for people who are in an area prone to flooding to be prepared and take steps to reduce the risks.
“I would say if and when the regional district supplies sand and bags it is likely wise to have some in place.”
In rural Oliver, director Rick Knodel doesn’t feet much of a threat at this time.
He noted the low alpine snowpack is low and the high alpine snow is not ready to run yet, which is more like a normal year.
“Should we get a sudden deluge that includes the high alpine then I would get concerned.”
All things considered right now, Knodel believes it will be a good year.
