Despite reports of a collision between a jet ski and a boat on Osoyoos Lake on June 10, RCMP say no collision occurred — but someone had fallen off their jet ski in windy conditions.

“There was no collision,” said Sgt. Jason Bayda of the Osoyoos RCMP.

“The witness advises the incident was simply two people on a jet ski that had become separated from the jet ski.  The wind and current was pushing the jet ski further away from them so they were calling out for help.  A boat from shore went out and took them back to their jet ski.  They were gone prior to any first responders being able to speak with them.”

Osoyoos Fire Department (OFD) Chief Dave McMahon told the Times-Chronicle the initial information they received was regarding a collision from BC Emergency Health Services (paramedics), however they did not follow up with witnesses.

“The information we got via BCEHS was that there was a collision … however RCMP have conflicting information. (OFD) did not have a face-to-face with witnesses to be able to validate which information is correct,” McMahon said.

No one was hurt or sent to the hospital following the incident.
