There is a new head of policing in the South Okanagan.
Inspector Brian Hunter is set to replace outgoing Officer In Charge (OIC), Supt. Ted De Jager, sometime in the next 90 days. Hunter is transferring from the Port Alberni RCMP Detachment where he served as OIC.
Hunter has a 25-year career as a Mountie spanning across the province from Shawnigan Lake to Salmon Arm and Williams Lake. Hunter and his wife Julie are looking forward to life in Penticton, according to an RCMP press release and outgoing Supt. De Jager.
“I know for a fact he is excited to come, he and and his wife Julie, are excited to come here, they love this area,” De Jager said.

De Jager said he has known Hunter for a long time and is confident the South Okanagan is in good hands.
“It’s a really good feeling to know that the person that is coming behind you, or succeeding you, is someone of that calibre. He knows what he’s doing, he’s been a detachment commander for a long time. I can leave here knowing that these communities, the (RCMP) members in particular, are safe and secure and are going to have a good boss, a great boss actually. That’s a good feeling.”
De Jager said he will let Hunter fill the media in on what his priorities are when he arrives sometime in the next 90 days.
